Knot Another Life is a Utah-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing youth overdose deaths through education, digital engagement, family support, and community partnerships. Our work is rooted in nearly two decades of lived experience with addiction, recovery, and youth advocacy. As teenagers in Utah, brothers Ryan and Daniel Smith struggled with prescription opioid misuse at a time when the crisis was only beginning to surface in American families. Their story — and their path to recovery — became one of the earliest nationally recognized cases of youth opioid addiction. Today, with more than 15 years of sustained sobriety, they bring hard-earned insight, long-term perspective, and proven resilience to every program we deliver. Their lived experience shapes every decision, partnership, and prevention effort at Knot Another Life.
